10 Pool Safety Tips

Drowning is the second-leading cause of injury-related death among children under the age of 15. (U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
- Stated by the CPSC (Consumer Production Safety Commission), nearly 260 children under the age of 5 drown in swimming pools. That is almost more than one preschool class of children every month!
AJM Insurance wants to provide you with some important pool tips and safety precautions and links you need to ensure that your family and neighborhood is protected.
- Make sure that your child is always under the supervision of a trusted adult to ensure that he or she is protected.
- Check the depth of the pool and look for “No Diving” signs before you decide to jump in.
- Make sure that anybody swimming in your pool knows how to swim, to avoid any accidents.
- Have a fence surrounding the perimeter of you pool with a lock on the entrance at all times, to prevent entrance to the pool without your knowledge.
- Remove the cover of the pool completely before allowing people to enter it this avoids any harmful events that may occur.
- Don’t allow any persons to walk over the pool cover since that may lead to drowning.
- Keep various floatation devices and safety devices near the pool in case any accidents may arise.
- Keep check on all of the important details of maintaining your pool. Ex: chemicals ratios, water levels, cleanliness, etc.
- Enforce safe pool rules such as: No running, no pushing, and no reckless or rough play while in the pool.
- Regulate the amount of people in one pool at a time to maintain safe capacity so as to prevent crowding.
