Spring Begins

A time for planting flowers, warmer weather, light jackets and drizzling rain! AJM Insurance would like to provide you with some gardening tips for you to get started on this spring!

A home garden can dramatically cut down on costs and can be a fun project to do with your family!

Gardening Tips

  • Start working the soil, only when it is moderately dry, to avoid ruining the soil
  • If you plan to use seeds, use raised beds or pots to start off your seedlings- they will have a better chance of survival
  • Before planting, check to see if you are planting the plants in the right season, and in the right spots.  Some plants can be fickle and not like a ton of sunlight…etc.
  • If you start seedlings indoors, slowly expose them outside, same with sun exposure
  • Start a compost, to help make a green garden and save on buying expensive fertilizers here is a great site to help start your own compost! http://composting.suite101.com/article.cfm/composting_can_be_done_in_a_small_space
  • Cutting off the top part of a plant that is growing tall and lanky will make the plant grow out more fully
  • Rotate where you plant vegetable crops.  Tomatoes, for example, are especially vulnerable to diseases that may linger in the soil or in plant residue.
