 Preparation to Save You and Your Family’s Lives

  • Review your coverage, limits and deductibles now to be sure you understand them before any storm may hit.
  • Talk to you family members about what they should do and how to do it incase a hurricane or any natural disaster may come your way.
  • Know where all evacuation routes are in your area.
  • Check to make sure that your home meets building codes that ensures it can endure hurricanes.
  • Be sure that you know where your first aid kit is and that it contains all the first aid supplies needed.
  • Have a stock of canned foods and bottled water that could last everyone in your household at least a week incase a disaster may arise.
  • Keep a supply of important survival tools such as: Batteries, matches, and flashlights.
  • Have all emergency numbers that you need on hand or in range of the phone.
  • Clean and unclog any rain gutters and downspouts.
  • Keep all trees and shrubbery trimmed of dead wood so that they will not break off easily and cause a potential threat.
  • Know the terms of all types of tropical cyclones and hurricanes.

           An important tool that focuses directly on all hazards is the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Weather Service Radio. This is a very handy tool when it comes to helping you keep an eye on any imminent storm or any receding storm that may affect you or any of your loved ones.  When a Warning Has Been Issued In Your Area

  • Leave all low lying areas that may be easily swept over by high tides or storm waves.
  • If you must leave than try to leave before hand, not at the last minute.
  • Have a secure room accessible and available for those in your household.
  • Protect your windows by boarding them up.
  • Pay attention to the radio and television for updates.
  • Be sure you have all supplies need at hand: First Aid Kit, Water and Food, eating utensils, and any other survival tools that you have.
  • Know where all members of your household are located.
  • Fill up any family vehicles with fuel since some gas stations may be lost or closed due to flooding.
  • Have cash on hand just as a safety precaution.
  • Secure any outside items that may become projectile during the storm, such as: Lawn chairs, garbage cans, garden tools, etc.
  • Unplug any electrical appliances if told to by authorities.
  • Keep refrigerator to maximum cold and only open when necessary.
  • Turn off all propane tanks.
